This International Coffee Day, expand your coffee horizons with a drink combines the smooth taste of matcha with creamy milk and a cooling layer of ice. It is a light yet energising option for warm days.
1 tsp Matcha powder 50 ml Hot water (not boiling, around 80°C) 150 ml Cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) 1 shot (30 ml) Espresso, freshly brewed 1 tsp Honey or sugar (optional) Ice cubes (enough to fill a glass)
Sift the 1 tsp matcha powder into a bowl or cup to remove any lumps.
Add 50 ml hot water and whisk with a bamboo whisk or small frother until smooth and slightly frothy.
Brew 1 shot of espresso and let it cool slightly.
If desired, stir in 1 tsp honey or sugar while the matcha is warm.
Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.. Pour 150 ml cold milk over the ice.
Gently add the espresso shot, followed by the whisked matcha, to create layers.
Stir before drinking, or keep layered for a striking look.
