Marking the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Gandhi Jayanti is observed on the 2nd of October. Focusing on his food habits, here are some dishes he included in his satvic diet.
Gandhi consumed goat’s milk for nourishment. After his health struglles, it became his major protein and calcium source.
He preferred millet like bajra and jowar over refined flour, and often included bajra rotis in his meals.
A staple in Indian households, Gandhi’s diet often included plain rice paired with simple dal.
Gandhi avoided heavy spices and had lightly cooked vegetables without gravies or oils.
The one-pot dish, khichdi made with rice and lentils was one of his staples.
